Senior Bowl director Jim Nagy says Texas A&M is a 'good-looking' football team
The expectations are once again high for Texas A&M. After a 2022 season to forget, the Aggies believe 2023 will be a much more successful campaign.
Senior Bowl director Jim Nagy got a first-hand look at what Texas A&M hopes the turnaround will look like when he went to a recent practice. While talking with Andy Staples on his podcast Monday, Nagy explained what stood out to him during his visit in College Station, Texas.
“I would say the bodies,” Nagy said. “And thank God the day I was there they were in their brand new indoor facility so we weren’t outside burning. The next day at Baylor, we were melting out on the field that afternoon. But I would say the bodies. They’ve had a lot of these upper level recruiting classes — not that I pay a lot of attention to that but I do know they had some top five, top 10 classes back to back — and usually the five star guys looked the part. They don’t always play it but they usually at least look it because they’re given five stars for a reason. They go to these camps and these showcases and they look great.”
The 2022 recruiting class for the Aggies was the No. 1 class in the country and one of the highest-rated recruiting classes in history.
But it is not just the sophomores that will be leading the team in 2023. There are multiple seniors on the team expected to be focal points of the offense and defense.

“It’s a good-looking football team,” Nagy said of Texas A&M. “There’s some seniors. There’s some guys — McKinnley Jackson, the defensive tackle; Ainias Smith at wide receiver; Layden Robinson at guard; (Edgerrin) Cooper at linebacker — there’s guys in the senior class.”
As Senior Bowl director, Nagy tends to focus on the upperclassman on his visits to different schools and when watching games.
But Nagy said Texas A&M head coach Jimbo Fisher had a lot of great things to say about his team’s freshman and sophomores. One guy who caught Nagy’s eye was freshman offensive lineman Chase Bisontis.
“Talking to Jimbo, he’s fired up about some of these young guys too,” Nagy said. “They’re far off our radar and probably hopefully won’t deal with those guys for a few years. But like he pointed out a freshman left tackle from New Jersey, number 71, I don’t know the kid’s name, but he looks like he could line up in the NFL tomorrow. That’s a good-looking football team. Again, I think it all is going to revolve around the quarterback position. I know they’ve got a few guys there that are kind of jockeying right now but it’s a good-looking team and usually good-looking teams play good. So we’ll see.”
