The Texas A&M Aggies and head coach Jimbo Fisher are in the midst of making history in the recruiting world. Even with a few prospects remaining on the board, they have put together one of the greatest classes of all time. Texas A&M has the top class according to the On3 Consensus rankings.

Throughout the cycle, Fisher had to deal with rumors of him leaving College Station in favor of the LSU job. He was able to push through, make it clear he was not leaving Texas A&M, and sign an all-time class.

Fisher was asked about how he dealt with the rumors and how important keeping the majority of staff in place was for recruiting. He responded by saying it was a major positive for the program.

“I think it did and I think the rest of our staff did,” Fisher said. “I think even when Mike (Elko) took a head job, which is inevitable, we were able to keep everybody, we didn’t lose anybody from it. We were able to keep guys intact. I think it’s a strong tribute to where we’re going, what we’re doing, and how people see the future.”

Since then, Lincoln Riley and USC were able to poach offensive line coach Josh Henson away from the Aggies. Nonetheless, seeing Fisher able to keep a majority of his key coordinators in place, despite all of the coaching turnover, is why the recruiting class was such a success.

Texas A&M will now try to turn the off the field success into on the field success. A win over Alabama was a real catalyst for the recruiting success but three other SEC losses crushed the hopes of a conference championship. With a good class comes more pressure for Fisher to win.

Texas A&M HC Jimbo Fisher denies change despite losing two coaches

Fisher is likely to only lose two coaches this carousel, with Elko heading to Duke and Henson going out west to USC. He was asked if anything would be different without those two guys around and was quick to remind the media of the last time there was coaching turnover on his staff.

“The year I won the national championship in 2013 I lost six guys,” Fisher said, firing back at a question of whether the coaching losses could shake up his recruiting class. “Remind them of that. We lost six coaches in 2012 and won the national championship in 2013.”
