Texas A&M to give Jimbo Fisher raise and contract extension
Texas A&M is set to give head coach Jimbo Fisher a raise and a contract extension this week, reports Brent Zwerneman of the Houston Chronicle.
Per Billy Liucci of TexAgs, Fisher’s new contract will average around $9 million over a decade.
“New deal between Texas A&M and Jimbo Fisher will average right at $9 million over 10 years,” Liucci said. “Should be approved tomorrow. Aggie AD Ross Bjork and the Board stepped up in a big time way. Long-term commitment from both sides here.”
Jimbo Fisher came to Texas A&M prior to the 2018 season and signed a signing a 10-year, $75 million contract at the time.
His current salary is good for fifth-best in the country. If Fisher’s salary was elevated to $9 million, he would be the second-highest paid coach in the country behind just Nick Saban, who makes $9.1 million,
In three seasons at Texas A&M, Fisher has led the Aggies to a 26-10 record with victories in the Orange Bowl, Texas Bowl and Gator Bowl.
Entering 2021, Fisher has named Haynes King as the starting quarterback, replacing Kellen Mond, who held the position for the last four seasons. King will be surrounded by weapons including the running back duo of Isaiah Spiller and Devon Achane, as well as wide receivers Ainias Smith, Chase Lane and tight end Jalen Wydermyer.
Defensively, Mike Elko’s unit looks to be one of the best in the country again, led by defensive lineman DeMarvin Leal and a secondary headlined by second-year cornerback Jaylon Jones.

Fisher has the Aggies aiming high, stacking top-ten recruiting classes in the last three cycles on top of the on-field results. Looking ahead, the 2022 recruiting class has a chance to be the best under Jimbo Fisher so far.
Texas A&M currently holds 14 commits in the 2022 class, 11 of which appear in On3’s top 300. Headlining the class is West Brook safety Bryce Anderson, who is rated as the top safety in the country, and Bridgeland quarterback Conner Weigman, who is rated as the No. 3 quarterback in the country.
The Aggies remain involved in the recruitment of the likes of five-star defensive linemen Walter Nolen, Gabriel Brownlow-Dindy and Shemar Stewart as they aim to finish with a top-three class nationally.
Texas A&M enters 2021 ranked No. 6 in the AP preseason poll. The Aggies open the season on Sept. 4 against Kent State at Kyle Field.
