Report: Texas A&M wide receiver Ainias Smith arrested on DWI, weapons charges
According to Brent Zwerneman of the Houston Chronicle, Texas A&M wide receiver Ainias Smith was arrested early Wednesday morning for driving while intoxicated. He was also charged with carrying an unlawful weapon and possessing marijuana, although it was less than two ounces.
Per the Brazos County justice website, Smith has not yet been released on bond as of Wednesday morning. He was scheduled to be one of the representatives for Texas A&M at SEC Media Days on Thursday. Now, that could be in question.
Smith is expected to play a major role in the offense for head coach Jimbo Fisher, especially with a new quarterback taking over this season. He led the Aggies in receptions last season, finishing with 47. Only tight end Jalen Wydermyer finished with more receiving yards, with Smith having 509 and also added six touchdowns to his resume.
There have been outlets to name Smith to preseason All-American teams and he was even identified as one of six players not receiving enough NFL Draft attention by On3’s Matt Zenitz. Smith is still most likely to suit up for Texas A&M this season and live up to the expectations.

As for his status for SEC Media Days, nothing has been released. Texas A&M is not scheduled to appear in Atlanta for another 24 hours, with Fisher and company arriving on Thursday. With Smith not even being released on bail, making the assumption that he would be in attendance would be a bold one.
Smith also marks the second Texas A&M wide receiver to face criminal charges this offseason. Demond Demas was arrested by police in connection with an assault family violence charge. He eventually left the program by entering the transfer portal.
Fisher has been working on fixing the wide receiver room in College Station, even with some of the off-the-field issues. Texas A&M signed the On3 Consensus‘ No. 2 and No. 3 receiver in the 2022 class with Evan Stewart and Chris Marshall.
