Jim Schlossnagle 'super excited' for Texas A&M's future after current players set foundation
Jim Schlossnagle did not have the season that he was hoping to in Year 2 at Texas A&M.
After reaching the College World Series in 2022, the Aggies went 38-27 (14-16) this year and failed to advance past the regional round of the NCAA Tournament.
Still, Schlossnagle feels good about the future of the program. He credits upperclassmen at Texas A&M for setting a strong foundation.
“Super excited about the future of the program, because of guys like Austin [Bost] and Nathan [Dettmer] who have shown the way,” Schlossnagle said. “The way you put together a good freshman year is you have people to model. And when you can model Austin Bost or you can model Brett Minnich, you can model Trevor Werner… you don’t need to hear from the coach. You just look at someone like Austin and do what he does.”
Bost had a disappointing year at the plate, hitting .226 with five home runs and 43 RBIs, but he was a leader for the Aggies all year.
Texas A&M had other leaders who stepped up, too, despite it being a difficult season as a whole.
“So that’s what’s been such a luxury for me, really the last two years, is to have this level of leadership and character at A&M,” Schlossnagle said. “Coach [Rob] Childress is to be credited for a lot of that, to have these kind of kids here. So yea, the future’s bright.”
While Schlossnagle is excited about the future, there’s no doubt that this past season was disappointing and did not live up to the standards of Texas A&M baseball.
Schlossnagle believes that the program has a lot of work to do in all areas to get back to Omaha and to start getting there consistently.

“As a program, we have a lot of work to do,” Schlossnagle said. “We’re right smack dab in the middle of it. But the program needs to continue to move forward in every area of the program. Not just personnel, but the facilities and everything moving forward. And that’s our job is to grow the program.”
Austin Bost looks back on decision to return to Texas A&M ahead of 2023 season
Even though Bost’s final season at Texas A&M didn’t go as he hoped, he doesn’t regret his decision to return to school and play one final season with the Aggies.
“Yeah. I mean, I never think about that. I made the decision,” Bost explained, when asked if he feels he made the right choice. “I still feel like it was the right decision, and to answer your question too, this season has meant the world to me. I wouldn’t trade it for anything else. I can’t thank the coaches enough. … They did everything for me.
“I want to thank my teammates. I mean, battling for me every single day. It’s amazing. I wouldn’t change it.”
