Texas A&M climbs in On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings

Texas A&M suffered a big recruiting loss on Nov. 7 when Denton (Texas) Ryan five-star linebacker Anthony Hill backed off his pledge to the Aggies. One month later, head coach Jimbo Fisher and his staff landed another five-star when El Campo (Texas) running back Rueben Owens chose the program on Wednesday night.
Following Owens’ commitment, Texas A&M’s 2023 recruiting class rose to No. 15 in the 2023 On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings. The Aggies’ group, which also ranks No. 6 in the SEC, elevated two spots from No. 17.
Owens is the No. 32 overall prospect and No. 3 running back in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 5 player in Texas.

Owens gives Texas A&M’s class more blue-chip talent
At one point over the summer, Texas A&M ranked outside the top 50 of the rankings. Now, the Aggies are in the top 15 thanks to pledges from five top-100 recruits.
Owens’ commitment is significant since he is the Aggies’ second five-star pledge alongside Katy (Texas) Paetow Five-Star Plus+ defensive lineman David Hicks. He chose Texas A&M on Sept. 28.

Hicks was one of three Aggies commits in September following La Grange (Texas) four-star cornerback Bravion Rogers and Orlando (Fla.) Westlake four-star interior offensive lineman T.J. Shanahan. Rogers, a top-60 prospect, decommitted from the Aggies over the summer before pledging back to head coach Jimbo Fisher and his staff on Sept. 6.
Texas A&M’s class also contains three other top-115 prospects who are ranked in the top 11 at their positions. The list includes Ramsey (N.J.) Don Bosco Prep four-star interior offensive lineman Chase Bisontis, Shiner (Texas) four-star safety Dalton Brooks and Dallas South Oak Cliff four-star cornerback Jayvon Thomas.
Other four-stars in the Aggies’ group include Spring Branch (Texas) Smithson Valley interior offensive lineman Colton Thomasson and Katy (Texas) Paetow linebacker Daymion Sanford. Texas A&M also has commitments from Humble (Texas) Atascocita three-star defensive lineman Samu Taumanupepe, Philadelphia (Penn.) Northeast three-star offensive tackle Naquil Betrand and Southlake (Texas) Carroll Senior three-star punter Tyler White.
