June 23 was a somber day in College Station, as Texas A&M defensive line/ends coach and former player Terry Price passed away at the age of 55. Price played for the Aggies from 1986-1989 and coached for the team for over a decade throughout his career, establishing himself as a great coach and beloved mentor.

Texas A&M’s defensive line coach Elijah Robinson, who also serves as the Aggies’ assistant head coach and run game coordinator, was at the Texas High School Coaches Convention this weekend and was asked about Price, and if playing for him will be a motivation for the Aggies’ defensive line. But before he spoke on that, he spoke about his impact on others around him.

“Coach Price made an impact on many people within the program, outside the program, coaches, support staff, players,” Robinson said. “He’s a dear friend of mine, I looked up to Coach Price. He made the transition for myself, for my family easy when we came to Texas A&M.”

Countless stories that reflect Price’s character and great reputation surfaced following his death, as it was more than clear that he was a special person who had a special impact on those around him. And because of this, Robinson believes that playing in his honor will be more of an unspoken expectation versus a loud and proud message for the team heading into the season.

“It’s something that doesn’t have to be said or talked about. I think we don’t have to push it as a coaching staff, those players really love Coach Price, those players adore Coach Price, and I think it’s going to be something internally that we’re all gonna try to put our best foot forward for Coach Price,” Robinson explained. “That’s what he’ll want.”

From leading Texas A&M’s defensive line in tackles as both a junior and a senior, to coaching up NFL talents like Myles Garrett and Justin Madubuike, to hosting iconic cookouts for the Texas A&M defensive lineman, Price gave his all for the Aggies throughout his career. And after doing so, it’s hard to imagine the Aggies won’t do the same in his honor this upcoming college football season.

“I think those guys internally they’ll all have their own chip on their shoulder to play hard for Coach Price,” Robinson concluded.
