Texas A&M outfielder Hayden Schott has decided to withdraw from the transfer portal following Michael Earley’s hire, according to his Twitter page.

Schott was one of several A&M players to enter the portal following the departure of coach Jim Schlossnagle to Texas. The outfielder led the team with a .335 batting average this past season, hitting eight home runs with 63 RBI in helping guide them to the College World Series finals.

So far, Schott has spent just one season with A&M after transferring in from Columbia this past offseason. Here was his announcement:

Schott worked mostly as a designated hitter for Texas A&M in 2024, though he did manage 18 putouts during the on-field reps he saw. He was a graduate student for the Aggies this past season who began his career at Cypress College (TX) in 2019.

Schott would go on to earn an Ivy League education at Columbia, where he was also named first-team all-conference in 2022. He ended his career there with 23 home runs.

Kendall Rogers says A&M could get a lot of guys back

For these Aggie players, Rogers says it’s all about maximizing value and examining what else is out there in a transition period, which is why he thinks many A&M players who entered the portal could wind up back.

“People have to realize that just because you’re going in the portal doesn’t mean that there’s some concocted scheme to move everybody over to Texas,” he said.

“No, it’s a very smart decision, because now when you go back to A&M’s NIL collective whenever they hire a coach, it’s like ‘Hey, here is what I’m worth to other schools.’ So it may not be that you want the same amount of money, but like, I want at least somewhere close to that.”

He continued, using a Texas A&M player for example:

“Like, if you’re Gavin Grahovac and you’re one of the top players in college baseball, why wouldn’t you go in the portal? Even if you go back there, you at least get a pretty good idea of what your market value is.”

To recap from Kendall Rogers: Texas A&M is in a good spot with plenty of qualified candidates, and if they nab the right one, perhaps many current players do stick around. But just don’t be shocked when there’s a mass entrance into the portal for these Aggies to at least test their value.

Now, a few players have already played out that process.
