In Saturday’s regular-season finale against LSU, Wade Taylor put himself in a class of his own in the Texas A&M record books. He hit a three-pointer in the first quarter to, at long last, record his 1,991st career point.

Taylor is now the all-time Texas A&M leading scorer. He needed just 25 points entering the game and broke Bernard King’s record, previously set at 1,990 points. These high-scoring performances are nothing new for Taylor and now, his name will forever be in Aggie record books.

From the time Taylor stepped foot on campus, he has been scoring for Texas A&M. Three of the four years in College Station have resulted in the guard averaging double figures. Junior year in 2022-2023 will wind up being his best, going for 19.1 points per game, good enough for fourth in the SEC.

On seven different occasions has Taylor gone for at least 30 points. Just once did he break the 40-point threshmark, having a career-high 41 in a game against Arkansas on 13-32 shooting plus 10 made free throws.

Taylor may have the record but he plans to add on in the coming weeks. Texas A&M heads to Baton Rouge for the season finale on Saturday before the SEC Tournament. And then the NCAA Tournament, where Taylor is hoping to advance to the Sweet Sixteen for the first time in his career.

A few more great scoring nights will be required to have a successful postseason and you know Taylor will be up for the task.

Buzz Williams considers Wade Taylor best-ever Texas A&M player

In anticipation of Taylor breaking the record — plus Senior Night in C-Stat — Buzz Williams spoke on the impact the guard has made. He made quite the claim, saying Taylor is the best player to ever come through the Texas A&M program.

Considering the scoring record plus a few more individual accolades, Williams is giving Taylor the nod.

“I know it’s not the only record he’ll break but it’s maybe one of the most known,” Williams said before the game. “I think he’s the best player that’s ever played here when you add in all of those ingredients. I know that there’s been many other great players. I don’t think anybody would have thought that upon arrival. Nobody for sure thought that when we were recruiting him.

“And I think, back-to-back first-time all-league players going into his senior year? All of the things that he’s accomplished? I personally believe he’s deserving of them,” said Williams. “I think, who he is as a person, the student he’s been, the leader he has become? He hasn’t shied away from any of it and I just have great respect for him.”
