Jim Schlossnagle raves over the veteran players on Texas A&M's roster
Texas A&M kept their record blemish-free at the College World Series on Monday night with a 5-1 win over Kentucky. Setting themselves up for success moving forward in the double-elimination round at Omaha with their sights set on a national championship.
The Aggies have seen a ton of production from their experienced players this offseason, particularly transfers like Jackson Appel, Ted Burton, and Hayden Schott. A trio that Texas A&M head coach Jim Schlossnagle was asked about following their big win on Monday.

“Just incredible people,” Schlossnagle said. “Like I said, I think you take those three guys, plus you throw in Braden [Montgomery], gotta give credit to where they came from. Gotta to give a lot of credit to David Esquer on Braden Montgomery, and the coaches at Columbia, and Michigan, and Penn because they developed these incredible young men.
“They come from great families, they were already awesome people. But it’s really neat to see those guys come to a big SEC school, they’re so appreciative and thankful for the resources they have at a place like A&M.”
From the Big Ten to the Ivy League and even the junior college level, Texas A&M’s transfers have come from all over the country. But regardless of where their playing experience has been at, their veteran play has been on display at college baseball’s biggest stage in Omaha.

“And they’re good players and they don’t get freaked out, all those guys played in postseason. Schott’s played in a Regional, I don’t know if Teddy has, did he play in the World Series?” Schlossnagle asked. “I don’t know, But Schott has, he’s played in a Regional too. So they’re cool, calm, steady, and I really think for the bulk of the season the secret sauce of our offense has actually been those guys.”
Schlossnagle believes that the makeup of his team has led to their success, with a combination of young talent and experienced players coming together and now putting the team in reach of a trip to the College World Series final.
“Because [Gavin] Grahovac, and [Jace] LaViolette, and Montgomery, they’re superstar players. Those guys are good college players and potentially professional baseball players, but having that age of player there in a row after those guys creates depth,” Schlossnagle said. “If you talk to the other teams in our league, they’ll say a lot of great things about Jackson Appel and what a tough out he is.”
The Aggies will look to keep their recipe cooking on Wednesday when they take on the winner of Florida and Kentucky‘s Tuesday elimination game that begins at 700 p.m. ET on ESPN
