Texas A&M infielder Kaeden Kent enters NCAA transfer portal
Texas A&M is set to potentially lose another key piece from its baseball team following the departure of coach Jim Schlossnagle to Texas. Infielder Kaeden Kent has entered the transfer portal, On3 has learned.
The sophomore was a staple in the lineup for the Aggies in their run to the College World Series final in 2024, featuring regularly at both second and third base.

He started about half of his team’s games, getting 24 starting nods in 51 appearances.
Kent put together a tremendous batting average considering he often hit in the latter part of the lineup, racking up a .327 average on the season. He didn’t hit much for power, though he did finish the season with four home runs.
The son of former MLB star Jeff Kent, Kaeden Kent had 10 extra-base hits. he also drew 16 walks and was hit by a pitch once, recording at OBS of .414.
But with Schlossnagle’s move to Texas, Kaeden Kent will give himself the option to seek a new home for the 2025 season. It’s his last before draft eligibility, so it’s an important year for the talented hitter.
Jim Schlossnagle executes an about-face
As much as anything, the sting for Texas A&M fans comes because Schlossnagle had made it seem like he would only be coaching the Aggies going forward.

In a press conference following the devastating loss to Tennessee in the title game on Monday night, Schlossnagle was asked about the rumors of the open Texas job. He was not thrilled with the question.
“I think it’s pretty selfish of you to ask me that question, to be honest with you,” Schlossnagle had said following the game on Monday night. “I left my family to be the coach at Texas A&M. I took the job at Texas A&M to never take another job again, and that hasn’t changed in my mind.
“That’s unfair to talk about something like that. That would be like you asking (Braden) Montgomery if he’s going to sign in the draft. But I understand you gotta ask the question, but I gave up a big part of my life to come take this job and I’ve poured every ounce of my soul in this job and I’ve given this job every single ounce I can possibly give it. Write that.”
But it took less than 24 hours for news to leak that Schlossnagle intended to take the Texas job, leaving the future for players like Kaeden Kent very much up in the air.
