Texas A&M head coach Jimbo Fisher signed his official contract extension on Wednesday, extending him through 2031 with the Aggies. His extension will start at $9 million per year and will increase each season, reported ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg.

Jimbo Fisher’s contract extension

“Fisher’s contract was extended by four years until December 31, 2031,” stated Rittenberg. “The terms of the new contract include an annual salary of $9,000,000 starting on January 1, 2022 and will increase to $9,150,000 on January 1, 2023. In each of the following years, the base salary increases by $100,000 on January 1. All other terms relative to performance incentives and other elements remain the same.”

Jimbo Fisher spoke about his new contract and stated that Texas A&M is committed to investing in their future.

“The investment Texas A&M University is making in our program, coaching staff and facilities speaks to the vision of our leadership and their commitment to long-term success,” Fisher stated. “I am thankful for the unwavering support of the administration, the faculty and staff, our 12th Man Foundation donors, the Aggie Network, and the 12th Man – the largest and loudest student section in the country. It is an honor to be the Head Football Coach at Texas A&M, and although I am proud of the strides we’ve made, we ain’t done yet!”

Jimbo Fisher’s success so far

Jimbo Fisher came to Texas A&M prior to the 2018 season and signed a 10-year, $75-million contract at the time.

His current salary is good for fifth-best in the country and will move up the list on Jan. 1. With Fisher’s salary was elevated to $9 million, he will be the second-highest paid coach in the country behind just Nick Saban, who makes $9.1 million.

In three seasons at Texas A&M, Fisher has led the Aggies to a 26-10 record with victories in the Orange Bowl, Texas Bowl and Gator Bowl.

Entering 2021, Fisher has named Haynes King as the starting quarterback, replacing Kellen Mond, who held the position for the last four seasons. King will be surrounded by weapons including the running back duo of Isaiah Spiller and Devon Achane, as well as wide receivers Ainias Smith, Chase Lane and tight end Jalen Wydermyer.

Defensively, Mike Elko’s unit looks to be one of the best in the country again, led by defensive lineman DeMarvin Leal and a secondary headlined by second-year cornerback Jaylon Jones.

Fisher has the Aggies aiming high, stacking top-ten recruiting classes in the last three cycles on top of the on-field results. Looking ahead, the 2022 recruiting class has a chance to be the best under Jimbo Fisher so far.

Texas A&M currently holds 14 commits in the 2022 class, 11 of which appear in On3’s top 300. Headlining the class is West Brook safety Bryce Anderson, who is rated as the top safety in the country, and Bridgeland quarterback Conner Weigman, who is rated as the No. 3 quarterback in the country.

The Aggies remain involved in the recruitment of the likes of five-star defensive linemen Walter Nolen, Gabriel Brownlow-Dindy and Shemar Stewart as they aim to finish with a top-three class nationally.

Texas A&M enters 2021 ranked No. 6 in the AP preseason poll. The Aggies open the season on Sept. 4 against Kent State at Kyle Field.
