Texas A&M selling 5-star Shemar Stewart on NFL tradition
When five-star defensive lineman like Shemar Stewart (Opa Locka (Fla.) Monsignor Pace) come to town, Texas A&M can’t point to a bunch of national championship trophies or a laundry list of recent All-Americans like Alabama and Ohio State can.
But the Aggies can highlight—and do—two of the best defensive linemen in the league on their alumni list.
Stewart, one of the Aggies’ biggest priorities in the 2022 recruiting class, posted a graphic from Texas A&M featuring him on a “Legends of Kyle Field” banner sandwiched between Von Miller and Myles Garrett.
Garrett, in his fifth season with the Browns, has notched 48 sacks and 47 tackles for loss while twice being named a Pro Bowler and once an All-Pro. Miller, the elder statesmen of the duo, has 110 sacks in 11 seasons with Denver. He is the active NFL sacks leader, and he’s an eight-time Pro Bowler, three-time First Team All-Pro, and the MVP of Super Bowl 50.
Whether Stewart, the No. 11 prospect in the 2022 On300 rankings, can build a career anything like Garrett’s or Miller’s is yet to be seen. But if he can make that graphic a reality put together a college career in the echelon of two NFL stars, Texas A&M just might have to make those banners a reality.

Who is in the lead for Shemar Stewart?
The 6-foot-5, 275-pound Stewart is the No. 4 defensive lineman in the 2022 class, ranking just behind Gabriel Brownlow-Dindy, Walter Nolen and Mykel Williams. All but Williams remain uncommitted, and the USC commit is on a visit to Georgia this weekend to see the Bulldogs host No. 9 Arkansas.
Stewart took an official visit to LSU over the summer, then unofficial visits to Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Miami (three visits), Ohio State and Texas A&M. The Tigers and Bulldogs were once thought to be the leaders for his commitment. But On3 Director of Recruiting Chad Simmons wrote last month that Ohio State and Texas A&M look to be in a two-team race.
Stewart is expected to visit Texas A&M next weekend when the Aggies host top-ranked Alabama. And a visit to Ohio State for later in the season could be in the cards.
