LEAVING Texas A&M for the Longhorns | How Jim Schlossnagle Mismanaged Leaving College Station

Texas A&M outfielder Hayden Schott has entered the NCAA transfer portal, On3’s Pete Nakos has learned. He spent just one season with the Aggies after transferring from Columbia this past offseason.

Schott is just the latest of several A&M players to enter the portal following the departure of coach Jim Schlossnagle to Texas. The outfielder led the team with a .335 batting average this past season, hitting eight home runs with 63 RBI in helping guide them to the College World Series finals.

Schott did all he could in Game 3 of the CWS finals on Monday, which the Aggies eventually lost 6-5 as Tennessee claimed the title. He finished the game 3-for-5 at the plate with one RBI.

“So glad I came here,” Schott wrote on X following the loss. “Wish I could thank the @12thMan enough. The best fan base in sports. I love my teammates more than I can explain. What a ride…”

Schott worked mostly as a designated hitter for Texas A&M in 2024, though he did manage 18 putouts during the on-field reps he saw. He was a graduate student for the Aggies this past season who began his career at Cypress College (TX) in 2019.

Schott would go on to earn an Ivy League education at Columbia, where he was also named first team all-conference in 2022. He ended his career there with 23 home runs.

Texas A&M had arguably its best season in program history this past year as the College World Series finals appearance was its first ever. The Aggies’ 53 wins was also tied for the second-most in program history.

However, with the departure of Schlossnagle and a number of transfers, it’s clear they’ll have a long way to rebuild heading into next year.

Texas A&M OF Caden Sorrell also enters transfer portal

Texas A&M outfielder Caden Sorrell entered the NCAA transfer portal, according to On3’s Pete Nakos. He spent just one season with the program.

The portal exodus continued with Sorrell after head coach Jim Schlossnagle left for Texas this week. Sorrell wasn’t the first freshman to enter the portal either.

Sorrell played in 61 games this season and registered 178 at-bats. He had a .275 batting average, 11 home runs, 42 RBI, 49 hits, seven doubles, five triples, nine stolen bases and had 24 walks.
