Just like the rest of his teammates, Wilson’s entry is not entirely unexpected. After all, he’s the 12th Texas A&M player to officially enter the portal on Wednesday.

He’s the 11th Texas A&M player to enter the portal on Wednesday. All the moves have occurred thanks to the fact that former Aggies head coach Jim Schlossnage is moving on from the program in favor of in-state rival Texas. As of this report, no former Aggie player has made the commitment to the Longhorns — but it’s not farfetched to assume some will remain loyal to the coach they originally committed to.

Of course, in the age of the transfer portal, Texas A&M’s success on the diamond precedes itself. Aggies brass has already begun its head coaching search and ones that’s through, they’ll have to get busy looking for portal commitments of their own to plug the holes left by Schlossnagle’s players.

Aggies shortstop Ali Camarillo also enters portal

Camarillo starred for the Aggies on defense and held his own at the plate during his lone season in College Station, batting .288 for the Aggies to go with seven home runs while scoring 50 runs in total. He most recently logged on hit in Game 3 of the College World Series final against Tennessee.

Camarillo appeared in and started all 68 games for the Aggies during the 2024 season, one of three players on Jim Schlossnagle’s squad to do so. On top of his home run numbers and run totals, Camarillo also logged 72 hits — 21 of which went for extra bases — to go with 36 RBIs.

Before coming to Texas A&M, Camarillo spent two seasons at California State University, Northridge, in Los Angeles. While making a name for himself at CSUN, Camarillo ranked second in the Big West in batting average (.371) and fourth in slugging (.611) while knocking in 44 runs on 65 total hits. That means 68 percent of the time Camarillo logged a hit, it scored a run. For his efforts he was named to the All-Big West First Team before entering the NCAA transfer portal.

As a freshman in 2022, he missed 23 games after sustaining an injury mid-season. Before missing a healthy chunk of the season, Camarillo made 29 starts at shortstop including the first 15 games of the season. He totaled 30 hits, 21 runs, 14 RBIs, seven walks and a home run during his limited time on the field.
