Kyle Field and the Texas A&M football complex were evacuated Thursday when police received word of a bomb threat. Officials then sent out a Code Maroon, and more information is coming out about the situation.

Sgt. Joe DeLeon of Texas A&M University Police briefed reporters on the situation, which started with a threat Thursday afternoon. Aggies coach Jimbo Fisher was on the scene this afternoon, according to The Eagle’s Travis Brown, and headed to his truck during the evacuation.

An investigation is ongoing, and people are still being asked to avoid the area.

“This is what we know. A bomb threat was received here at Texas A&M at Kyle Field at 1:25 p.m. today,” DeLeon said. “As a precaution, the stadium and the Bright Building Complex have been evacuated. University Police are continuing to search the facilities and everyone has been asked to avoid the area until additional information is passed down.”

DeLeon also said it’s still unclear who made the threat, but added that’s part of the investigation. Additionally, he said no other buildings were evacuated due to the situation.

“Right now, we have asked everyone to clear the surrounding areas,” DeLeon said. “We do have more personnel and officer that are going to be assisting just to maintain the perimeter until Kyle Field is completely searched.”

Texas A&M canceled practice on Thursday as a result and DeLeon confirmed other events were impacted, as well.

Officials at Texas A&M issued a Code Maroon to students and staff who may be around Kyle Field and the Bright Building on the College Station campus on Thursday. The alert says a bomb threat was received for Kyle Field. As a precaution, the area is under an evacuation notice as University police search the facilities.

Officials have asked everyone to avoid the area. The Code Maroon went out at 1:25 p.m. CT on Thursday.

The University will post new updates on the emergency alerts page.

A new update, posted at 2:07 p.m. CT, said all activities within Kyle Field and the Bright Football Complex are postponed until further notice. However, all other campus activities can proceed. The alert means the Aggie football team won’t practice on Thursday afternoon.
