Jimbo Fisher is at a bit of a disadvantage this weekend. It’s tough enough to go down to Tuscaloosa and prepare for Alabama. It’s even more so considering Texas A&M won’t know who’s starting at quarterback following the injury to Bryce Young. With Nick Saban going full gamesmanship, Fisher says it’s going to take some extra work to have his team prepared.

Fisher spoke about preparing for both of Alabama’s quarterbacks to end his press conference on Monday. He said he and the defensive staff are just going to have to do more work to study both so that they’re not caught off guard this weekend.

“I guess we are (preparing for both). We’ll look at what both (do) and play…You gotta study more. I’ve watched their games and I’ll study that more as I break down. And I’ll ask our defensive staff if they’re doing anything different,” said Fisher. “When you really evaluate the game, they’re breaking it down in detail and I’ll ask them where they’re going. I’ll reevaluate that later in the week as we’re doing some other things.”

There are some big differences between the reigning Heisman Young and the backup Jalen Milroe. Young is the proven pocket passer who has thrown for 1,200 yards and 14 touchdowns this season so far. Meanwhile, Milroe is more of a dual threat as he threw for 65 yards and ran for 91 while in Young’s stead in Fayetteville this weekend. Either way, Texas A&M will have to be ready for a dynamic option.

Nick Saban has already been irritated more than once by the question of who he will be starting against the Aggies this weekend. With him keeping it close to the vest to not give Fisher an advantage, he’s ensuring the A&M coaching staff will have to do more work to be prepared for this weekend. It’s a lot already, but Fisher and his defense will have to make sure they have their I’s dotted and T’s crossed in order to be equipped to handle whoever Alabama throws at them this weekend.
