Texas A&M Football Recruiting: 2024 commit breakdown
After the firing of Jimbo Fisher last month, Texas A&M has dropped precipitously in the On3 Industry Football Team Recruiting Rankings.
After moving to as high as No. 3, the Aggies have dropped to No. 15 following a handful of major decommitments.
New coach Mike Elko and Co. have 15 commitments in the 2024 cycle, and seven of those project to play on the offensive side of the ball at the next level, while another eight are expected to play defense.
Aggies Class Breakdown
Texas A&M’s class consists of two five-stars, eight four-stars and five three-star prospects. The five-star recruits committed to the Aggies include Timpson (Texas) athlete Terry Bussey, and Lafayette (La.) Acadiana defensive lineman Dominick McKinley.
One more commitment ranks inside the top-100 nationally in the On3 Industry Ranking: four-star Longiew (Texas) defensive lineman Dealyn Evans.
Top Texas A&M Offense Commit: WR Cam Coleman
The 6-foot-3, 280-pound Ivy is the highest-rated offensive commitment for the Aggies this cycle, ranking as the nation’s No. 127 prospect and No. 5 interior offensive lineman.
On3’s Scouting and Rankings team writes this about him as a prospect:
“Versatile offensive lineman with supreme length and good functional movement skills. Measured in at over 6-foot-3, 280 pounds in the off-season prior to his senior year. Touts one of the larger wing-spans in the 2024 cycle at north of 7-foot-1. Has a well-proportioned build with very little bad weight. Lines up at right tackle on Friday nights. Shows good functional movement skills. Plays with a solid base, dropping his weight to anchor on contact in pass protection.

… Relatively refined in his pass set technique relative to other blue-chip offensive line prospects. Shows requisite body quickness both on film and in camp settings. Has some pop in his hands on contact. Could project at tackle or guard at the next level. Is not as tall or big as most tackles, but has compensatory length. Also participates in track and field, sporting a 47-10 foot shot put toss. Can continue working on his hand placement and sustaining blocks once engaged.”
Top Defense Commit: DL Dominick McKinley
On the defensive side, the aforementioned Bussey is the Aggies’ highest-rated pledge, checking in as the No. 20 prospect nationally and No. 2 athlete.
On3’s Scouting and Rankings team writes this about him:
“Do-it-all athlete who is arguably the best high school football player in the state of Texas. Measured a shade over 5-foot-10 and around 180 pounds prior to his senior season. A top athlete, both in the combine setting and on the track. One of the fastest prospects in the 2024 cycle. Ran a personal best of 10.66 seconds in the 100 meters as a sophomore, finishing 3rd in the state meet. Posted strong marks in the long jump (23-4.75 feet and triple jump (45-11 feet) as a junior. Lines up at quarterback and defensive back for Timpson. Has eviscerated the level of competition dating back to his freshman season. Boasts a rare combination of top-tier explosiveness and fluidity. Gashes defenses with his legs. Shows range while working as a defensive back, both as a safety and corner.
… Does a nice job staying in phase in man coverage. Physical defender and is willing to stick his face into traffic. Shows the ability to track the ball as a receiver. A dominant player on Friday nights with elite production. Finished his junior season with 4,773 yards and 72 touchdowns from scrimmage en route to being named Mr. Texas Football. Also picked off five passes, returning four for touchdowns. A four-sport athlete with a sterling multi-sport profile. Averaged 19.6 points per game in basketball and has the ability to throw down dunks at 5-foot-10. Has genuine positional ambiguity at the next level, with his highest upside appearing to be as a defensive back given his natural athleticism and playmaking ability. Is not overly refined as a receiver and would need time to develop as a route-runner. May lack some size, but is an elite athlete with an undeniable body of work as a high school player.”
