One of the top freshmen in the country will be staying with the Texas A&M baseball program after all. Gavin Grahovac has made the decision to withdraw from the transfer portal, he announced Tuesday morning.

Grahovac posted on Instagram: “Staying where I belong…the show must go on #gigem.”

Grahovac entered the transfer portal in June after Aggies head coach Jim Schlossnagle left for Texas. However, with Texas A&M hiring Michael Earley as is next head coach, Grahovac has made the decision to stay in College Station.

Michael Earley was on staff under Schlossnagle and after it appeared as though he would also be going to Texas with him. However, he will instead stay as the head coach at Texas A&M. It’s a move that several Aggies players, including Gavin Grahovac, hoped would happen.

Grahovac was a big part of the reason Texas A&M made it all the way to the College World Series finals this past season. During his freshman season in 2024, he hit .298 with 16 doubles, 23 home runs and 66 RBIs.

The California native was the Preseason SEC Freshman of the Year and he lived up to the hype.

Gavin Grahovac was the leadoff hitter for Texas A&M while splitting time between third base and outfield. He helped Texas A&M to a 53-15 record this past season.

Prior to signing with the Aggies, Grahovac was ranked as the No. 55 overall player in the country in his class, according to Perfect Game. He was named the California State Player of the Year in both 2022 and 2023. He was also a 2023 High School All-America first team selection by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper.

Jim Schlossnagle addresses reaction to him leaving Texas A&M: ‘I didn’t know it was going to be apocalyptic’

Jim Schlossnagle led the Texas A&M Aggies to within a win of winning the 2024 national championship. They fell just short of the national crown, losing to the Tennessee Volunteers.

In a surprising move, Schlossnagle didn’t waste any time in infuriating the Texas A&M fan base, leaving to take the Texas job less than a day after the season ended.

On Sunday, during Longhorns’ celebration of joining the SEC, Schlossnagle addressed the fan reaction of him leaving Texas A&M.

“I had an idea that it would be nuclear, but I didn’t know it would be apocalyptic. But that just shows you the passion of the 12th man, to be honest with you. I mean, I think you can’t ask people to be passionate and support your program the way I did when I was there or the way you do when you’re at a great school like that. And then when something negative happens or a change then there’s gonna be a reaction to that,” Schlossnagle explained.

“So, it wasn’t by design. I don’t wish anybody a bad future. Certainly, they just hired one of our assistant coaches and I’m excited for Coach Earley. But, this was just an opportunity for me to be with Chris [Del Conte] to do something special at a place that’s been to more College World Series than any other school.”
