Texas A&M has announced the punishment against a track and field athlete for streaking during a baseball game Tuesday night. Spencer Werner has been suspended, the school said in a statement.

“Texas A&M track and field/cross country student-athlete Spencer Werner has been suspended per athletics department policy after he was arrested Tuesday evening,” the statement read, via the Houston Chronicle’s Brent Zwerneman.

Werner ran onto the field Tuesday night as the Aggies took on Texas, held up a sign that said “Longhorns suck” and proceeded to moon the crowd. He managed to go from between the pitcher’s mound and home plate all the way over the center field wall. He was arrested and charged with criminal trespassing and disorderly conduct, according to Zwerneman’s report. Bail was set at $2,800.

Werner is preparing for his freshman season with Texas A&M after impressing during the cross country season. He was named SEC Men’s Freshman Runner of the Week in September after turning in a 24:51.0 showing in the Paul Short Run 8k.

Texas A&M ran into a red-hot Texas team Tuesday

As for the baseball game, Texas A&M ended up falling to Texas 5-2 in the matchup. The Longhorns took an early lead thanks to a two-run double in the first inning from Porter Brown, but the Aggies answered back on a Jace LaViolette RBI single in the bottom half of the inning to make it 2-1.

Although it became a 3-2 Texas lead heading into the eighth inning, the Longhorns put up two runs — one on a hit-by-pitch and another on a fielder’s choice — to create separation and get the victory.

The Longhorns have been red-hot of late, winning their last 15 straight games just in time for Big 12 play to start back up. They’ve certainly found their stride, according to third baseman Peyton Powell.

“I think we’re really confident,” Powell said, via On3 and Inside Texas’ Joe Cook. “After the sweep against Tech then coming here and beating A&M on their home turf, then going to Oklahoma State, I think it gives us a little confidence being on the road. We’re going to drag this thing out as long as we can. We’re going to face adversity and we’re not scared of it.”

Texas A&M fell to 15-10 with the loss to its in-state rival and is now turning its attention to a three-game series against Ole Miss this weekend.
