Texas transfer forward Jamie Vinson is joining an in-state rival, committing to Texas A&M via the NCAA transfer portal, On3 has learned. Vinson is a rising sophomore who played in nine games this past season, averaging 2.2 points and 1.1 rebounds.

An Austin native, Vinson played high school basketball at Virginia’s Oak Hill Academy. He was ranked as the No. 217 overall prospect, the No. 47 power forward, and the No. 8 player in Virginia in the 2024 On3 Industry Ranking. On3 ranked Vinson as the No. 52 power forward and the No. 10 player in Virginia.

The Aggies are rebuilding their team after Buzz Williams left for Maryland, and they’re doing a bang-up job in the transfer portal. Earlier this month, former Oklahoma transfer guard Duke Miles committed to Texas A&M as well, with On3’s Joe Tipton confirming.

Miles averaged 9.4 points per game and shot a team-leading 43-percent from three-point range in 2024-25 while helping lead the Sooners to the NCAA Tournament in their first season apart of the SEC. Miles previously started his career at High Point and Troy, and was back on the open market, where the Aggies pounced.

Prior to his arrival in Norman this past season, Miles had a standout year at High Point in 2023-24. He averaged 17.5 points per game while adding 2.4 rebounds and 3.6 assists on average across 33 games, including 27 starts. He then cemented himself as a starter under Oklahoma’s Porter Moser while averaging 24.6 minutes per game.

Miles played high school basketball at Montgomery (Ala.) Percy L. Julian. After entering the transfer portal this cycle, he became the No. 79 overall player and No. 5-ranked combo guard in the On3 Industry Transfer Rankings.

Moreover, Miles’ commitment to the Aggies is the another in a long line for the program since the hire of former Samford coach Bucky McMillan. Commitments from former Samford guard Josh Holloway and Indiana forward Mackenzie Mgbako, as well as Kansas forward Zach Clemence and North Alabama guard Jacari Lane have rolled in.

The Aggies made the NCAA Tournament in each of the last three seasons under Williams, but never made it past the opening weekend in each of those three appearances. They’ll look to change that under Bucky McMillan for the 2025-26 season, and these players will hope to play starring roles during his new school’s effort.
