Heartbreaking news came out of College Station as Texas A&M tight end Donovan Green is set to miss the entire 2023 season. Reports indicate a torn ACL is the issue for the second-year player. Green was expected to be a big contributor for the Aggies this year and will be missed.

On Monday, Green confirmed the news that he would miss the entire season. He also penned an emotional message along with it, diving into his faith. The journey of getting back onto the football field has already begun according to Green, hoping to work back toward 100% for the 2024 season.

“I suffered a season ending injury this past weekend,” Green’s tweet said. “This was not what I was expecting for this season, but I do understand God’s plans are sometimes different from ours. So now I’m already working for next season and helping our team anyway possible. I want to say thank you for all the support and prayers. They are definitely motivational.

“He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God, Romans 4:20 NKJV I do it all in his name, AMEN.”

Green may have been a true freshman but he played a huge role for Texas A&M in 2022. He wound up being the team’s fourth leading receiver, having 233 yards. Two touchdowns were caught off 22 receptions for a solid debut collegiate campaign.

More of the same was expected under new offensive coordinator Bobby Petrino. Quarterback Conner Weigman already has one of the best receiving corps in the country, sometimes giving Green an advantage against opposing defenders. Green would have been in a ton of favorable matchups.

Stepping up to replace Green is likely Max Wright and Jake Johnson. Wright is the more experienced of the two, with Johnson entering his second season with the program as well. However, even when you combine the tight end duo’s production from 2022, it comes nowhere near what Green was able to put out.

Green was part of Texas A&M’s historic 2022 recruiting class, finishing No. 1 in the country per the On3 Industry Team Rankings. He was a four-star prospect out of Dickinson (TX) High School and ranked the No. 6 tight end in the country.

Hopefully by the time the offseason is wrapping up next season, we are discussing Green coming back into the mix for Texas A&M.
