On Tuesday, Texas A&M left-handed pitcher Troy Wansing announced he will be returning to the Aggies next season. He is only the latest Aggie to confirm their return after Texas A&M named Michael Earley the program’s next head coach.

Wansing only played in one game last season after being forced to undergo surgery to repair a back injury. In his first campaign with the Aggies in 2023, Wansing made 14 appearances and 18 starts, tallying 52.1 innings pitched.

He finished the season with 72 strikeouts while holding opposing hitters to a .262 batting average. He recorded 3-4 record and a 5.50 ERA. Wansing especially found success in the 2023 SEC Tournament, where he was named a member of the All-Tournament team.

Before transferring to Texas A&M, Wansing spent one season at Purdue, where he made 15 appearances and 12 starts. In 51.1 innings on the mound, Wansing collected 61 strikeouts and a 5.44 ERA. He posted a 4-4 record and was a member of the 2022 Big Ten All-Freshman Team.

Wansing played high school baseball at Staley High School (MO), where he was the No. 500 overall prospect and No. 182 left-handed pitcher in the 2021 recruiting cycle, according to Perfect Game.

Wansing’s future with the program, like many others, was up in the air after head coach Jim Schlossnagle left the program to take over at Texas only one day after the Aggies fell in Game 3 of the national championship.

However, after Texas A&M named Earley the program’s next head coach, numerous Aggies who entered the portal pledged to return to Texas A&M for the 2025 campaign, including standout Jace LaViolette.

With Earley’s teachings, LaViolette became the first player in Texas A&M history to record back-to-back seasons with 20 or more homers. Now, Earley will have a chance to continue to spread his knowledge in College Station.

Texas A&M president Mark A. Welsh III couldn’t be happier with the hire.

“Michael Earley is talented, hard-working, and absolutely committed to Aggie baseball,” Welsh III said. “Not a bad combination when you consider the huge support he has from his players. Add in the street cred he enjoys across collegiate baseball as a position coach, hitting coach and recruiter, and you realize we now have a budding superstar leading Aggie baseball.
