The Texas A&M Aggies had lost five straight games coming into Saturday’s contest. A few weeks ago, they were projected to be in the NCAA Tournament. However, after their recent skid, they’re sitting on the wrong side of the NCAA Tourney bubble.

And the Aggies needed a win vs. Georgia to keep their slim hopes of making the big dance alive. They got the victory on Saturday and shortly after, Tyrece Radford spoke with the SEC Network about the team’s mindset.

Tyrece Radford on his team continuing to battle

“Just as a team. As a unit. We just came together. Don’t give up. It ain’t over. So, just keep fighting. Get in the ring. Coach Buzz [Williams] used to preach that and he still preaches that. Three years, four years straight. That’s what we live by. Just keep fighting,” Radford said.

How were he and his teammates able to battle through their recent losing streak?

“Most of my guys that came back,” the Aggies point guard said. “We’ve been through this. It’s difficult. We’ve been through most of it. The previous years, we had high hopes, you know. We were right in the same situation, you know. Year one, lose I think eight games in a row. Didn’t let that discourage us,

“Didn’t let that bring us down this year. Adversity. It’s the same thing, just a different year. It’s still adversity. We’ve just gotta come together. Like I said, we came together, team meeting, whatever it takes. Just to get everybody’s mindset on the same thing. I kept saying to them. It’s not over. Keep fighting.”

He noted that his teammate, Wade Taylor IV, didn’t have that big of a game. But he still managed to affect the game in other ways, stuffing the stat sheet in a number of categories.

“Even though, as you said, Wade didn’t have the game that he wanted,” the Louisiana native said. “He still led as a leader. He was vocal. That helped big time. You know. It started at the beginning of the season. No matter if he had a good game or if he has a bad game. That’s the type of person that he is. He’s always that leader.”

Taylor finished with four points, four assists, three rebounds, and three steals.

“Wade, even though it didn’t show, he still had a big impact on this game,” Radford said.

Radford didn’t want to spend much of the postgame talking about himself. He touched on the impressive play of another one of his teammates, Andersson Garcia. He stuffed the stat sheet with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

How does Radford think Garcia is able to be so dominant on the boards? “I have no idea. I think it’s just how his mind works. It’s just how his brain works. He’s a quick twitch athlete. Rebounding is just his thing. You know?”

“He takes pride in just helping the team winning and just playing hard and rebounding,” Radford finished.

Radford led the way for the Aggies on Saturday, finishing with 20 points, 10 rebounds, and one assist. Texas A&M improved to 16-13 with the win, ranking them 9th in the SEC. They’ll finish their regular season with games against Mississippi State (March 6th) and Ole Miss (March 9th).
