USC transfer catcher Jacob Galloway commits to Texas A&M

The big wins continue for Texas A&M baseball inside the NCAA transfer portal following Jim Schlossnagle‘s exit and Micheal Earley‘s promotion to head coach. On Wednesday, former USC Trojans catcher Jacob Galloway announced he would be committing to the Aggies for the upcoming 2025 campaign. Galloway took to social media to announce the news, with this message attached.

“First, I’d like to thank all of my coaches and teammates at USC for making my first two years of college the best time of my life. Made many great memories that I will remember for the rest of my life. With that being said, I’d proudly like to announce my commitment to @aggiebaseball. I’m extremely grateful for this opportunity and can’t wait to compete and give my all to this program. Gig ‘em!!!👍,” wrote Galloway via Instagram.

Galloway is coming off an impressive sophomore season for the Trojans. Last year, he started for USC as a catcher, playing in 58 games. In those matchups, he made 262 plate appearances, earning credit for 213 at-bats while finishing the year with a .286 batting average and an OPS of .836. Galloway had a total of 61 hits, 42 runs scored, 40 RBIs, and six home runs. The sophomore catcher drew 27 walks but found himself striking out 45 times last season.

Kaeden Kent announces he will return to Texas A&M

Texas A&M infielder Kaeden Kent announced on Wednesday he’d be withdrawing from the transfer portal and staying with the Aggies. Kent’s return is a big win for new head coach Michael Earley.

Kent is the son of former major leaguer and NL MVP Jeff Kent.

A sophomore in 2024 for the Aggies, Kent saw his role expanded, still playing primarily off the bench. He made 24 starts across 51 appearances and made major strides with his bat. In 2024, Kent upped his average by more than 60 points, hitting .327 in 110 at-bats. His power numbers aren’t eye-popping, with six doubles and four home runs, but he started to flash a bit more pop as the season progressed. Kent also got 16 free passes to his 20 strikeouts.

Kent projects to be a key piece for the Aggies going forward, likely as an everyday middle infielder playing second base.
