An old Big 12 rivalry is set to take place on Wednesday, with Oklahoma playing host to Texas A&M. However, one of the Aggies’ best players is set to miss the contest due to an injury. Head coach Buzz Williams will have to deal without Wade Taylor in Norman.

Taylor was officially ruled out by the SEC Student-Athlete Availability report, released on Tuesday at 7:10 p.m. CT. There is no official word on what injury is bothering Taylor on the report.

Either way, a huge loss for Texas A&M as they look to begin their SEC slate with a 2-0 record.

Texas A&M opened with an in-state rivalry win against Texas but did have to play without Taylor for an extended period. He started the second half but after a few possessions, was subbed out by Williams — an unusual move for someone averaging just over 30 minutes per game.

Apparently, Taylor was complaining about some tightness in his knee. While he did eventually return to the court, it’s potentially affecting him a few days later, and keeping him out against Oklahoma.

“Wade Taylor IV just came into the locker room tunnel next to the postgame press conference room complaining about knee tightness,” Parker Rehm of FOX 44 said via X during the Texas game. “He said ‘It just feels like jelly.’ He sprinted into the locker room after getting it stretched out.”

More on Wade Taylor, 2024-2025 season with Texas A&M

A lot of people were high on Texas A&M coming into the season and Taylor is a huge reason why. For a few years now, Taylor has been one of the SEC’s most electric players. Returning to College Station has folks around the program feeling like there is an opportunity to make a run in March.

Entering Wednesday’s game against Oklahoma, Taylor leads Texas A&M in scoring with 15.7 points per game and assists, dishing out 4.8 a night. Nobody has been more important to the program’s recent success than him and his play throughout the season has proven to be true once again.

Everyone will be hoping this is just a one-off for Taylor. Following OU, Texas A&M has another ranked opponent on the schedule, Alabama, welcoming them to Reed Arena. A storyline to watch moving forward for the Aggies.
