Wade Taylor IV breaks all-time SEC Tournament career scoring record during game vs. Texas

In the second half of Texas A&M‘s showdown against Texas in the SEC Tournament, Aggies star Wade Taylor IV became the career scoring leader in the SEC Tournament. He surpassed former Tennessee guard Allan Houston, who totaled 187 points in nine games from 1990-93.
It’s only the latest piece of history for Taylor, who also became the Aggies’ all-time leading scorer in their regular-season finale win over LSU. In the victory, Taylor scored 17 points to improve his career total to 1,999 points. Aggies head coach Buzz Williams didn’t shy away from discussing Taylor’s impact on Texas A&M.
“Who he is off the floor, his leadership ability, the relationships he has with everyone within the program – the managers, the players, the coaching staff. He has continued to evolve. He has continued to develop, not just on the court but in all of the intangibles,” Williams said.
“His diligence in working at his craft, working on his body, spending time in the film room, understanding his game? He’s been guarded every possible way you could, you could dream of – in a ball screen, uh, off the ball, on the ball – and he’s continued to grow in his knowledge and still be able to perform and execute when he’s probably at the top of most scouting reports, regardless of who we play.”
Now, Taylor is looking to lead Texas A&M once more as the team searches for new heights in the postseason. The Aggies haven’t won the conference tournament championship since joining the SEC.

Moreover, Taylor hasn’t been past the second round of the NCAA Tournament during his four years with the Aggies. While Taylor won’t be able to try again next year if Texas A&M comes up short, Buzz Williams has already offered his star player a position on his coaching staff.
“I’ve already offered him a job,” Williams said. “I’ve actually offered three guys on our [team] a job prior to this week. I think [Wade Taylor IV] thinks he’s going to play a long time and wants to play a long time. I’ve tried to explain to him, I may not be coaching when you’re done playing, so my offer is going to expire before your playing career expires.”
