Rece Davis predicts Texas A&M over 7.5 wins in 2023

If you looked a pure football results, Jimbo Fisher would be on the hot seat. Texas A&M only won five games in Fisher’s fifth season in charge of the program. Even with non-football reasons likely keeping the head coach’s job safe, there will still be pressure on the Aggies to get a few results this upcoming fall.
Oddsmakers in Vegas have set the win total for Texas A&M at 7.5. An 8-4 season would be considered a decent bounceback and ESPN’s Rece Davis expects them to. However, it’s a tight decision for Davis, saying the Aggies will just get over the finish line.
“I do think A&M will be improved,” Davis said. “I think they lose four. 8-4 seems about right. They have some tough road games. The over/under is 7.5 so I am going to spin the Wheel of Fortune and say they get to eight and barely get above the win total.”
As mentioned by Davis, the road games Texas A&M has to endure could cause trouble. Miami is an early one in the nonconference but at Tennessee, Ole Miss, and LSU all come in the second half of the season. The Arkansas game is technically away from home as well but is a neutral site matchup at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.
Yes, it’s a big chunk of the schedule but if Fisher is going to have a good season, getting results throughout those five games is crucial. Not necessarily going 5-0 but being able to get at least three wins would be a massive win for the Aggies.

Even Texas A&M SEC home games could prove to be difficult
Kyle Field is one of the best home advantages in all of college football. Over 100,000 people pack into the stadium on a weekly basis to cheer on Texas A&M. They can get quite loud too, rattling opposing teams for all four quarters.
Even so, there are going to be some tough games at home for the Aggies. None will draw more attention than Alabama, just two years removed from the famous upset of Nick Saban for Fisher. Getting another win against the Crimson Tide would bring the energy back to the Texas A&M program.
From a win-total perspective, though, Auburn and South Carolina will be massive games. Both of those programs have momentum heading into the season under Hugh Freeze and Shane Beamer, respectively. Going 2-0 or 0-2 in those games can make a huge difference in a season.
