2025 4-star WR Winston Watkins Jr. decommits from Texas A&M
Fort Myers (Fla.) IMG Academy four-star wide receiver Winston Watkins Jr. committed to Texas A&M on Dec. 20, 2021. Nearly a year later, Watkins Jr. has decided to reopen his recruitment.
The 5-foot-8, 170-pound wideout decommitted from the Aggies on Friday morning. He was previously the only member of Texas A&M’s 2025 recruiting class.
“(Texas A&M) is definitely going to be in my top schools,” Watkins Jr. told On3. “They’re not going anywhere from my top schools. But right now, I just feel like I need to hear other schools and see what they’ve got going on.”
Watkins Jr. called his decision “tough.” One factor of it is the Aggies’ performance this season. After signing the nation’s top recruiting in 2022, Jimbo Fisher‘s squad is 3-7 through 10 games.
“They’re not doing the best on the field right now and they’re just trying to figure things out,” said Watkins Jr., the No. 20 overall prospect and No. 4 wide receiver in the 2025 On3 Consensus.
Right now, Watkins Jr. is in no rush to commit. He wants to take his time with his recruitment and take a look at multiple schools.
That list includes Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, Ohio State and Tennessee. The Florida native currently holds 15 offers.

“I definitely want to take things slow and just see what’s all going on and just figure everything out,” Watkins Jr. said.
A part of that process will be taking game visits. Watkins Jr. has already been to Florida State, Miami and Utah and will be at Maryland‘s game this weekend against the Buckeyes.
Even though it is his sophomore year, the four-star is well-aware of what he wants in a school. It will be an important part of his recruitment going forward.
“I want to see who’s in front of me class-wise and see if I will be able to get on the field,” Watkins Jr. said. “Get taught and get to be able to be at my best level of play.”
“Just relationship-wise, seeing if they’re really gonna be able to get me (ready) for (the) NFL because that’s the main goal,” he added.
