5-star SG Tre Johnson meets Arch Manning on Texas official visit
Dallas (Texas) Link Academy five-star shooting guard Tre Johnson took his official visit to Texas this week, where he met up with Longhorns freshman quarterback Arch Manning.
Johnson made his visit to Austin on Sunday and stayed through Tuesday at noon. He is a Five-Star Plus+ prospect ranked No. 4 in the nation and is the No. 1 shooting guard in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking — a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
Arch Manning was the No. 1 overall football prospect in the 2023 recruiting cycle and currently has an On3 NIL Valuation of $2.9 million.
Johnson discusses relationship with Longhorns
Johnson spoke with On3 earlier this summer, giving his thoughts on the Longhorns.
“(Rodney Terry) and I have had a good relationship always,” Johnson said. “He was my dad’s assistant coach when he was at Baylor. So we’ve always had a good relationship and him getting the head coaching job is really good for him. He also lets his guards play and also uses the bigger guards in the post. The players (stood out on the visit). They all stay in the gym and it’s open 24/7.”
On3 National Basketball Recruiting Analyst Jamie Shaw had this to say about Johnson in May.
“Tre Johnson is as natural a scorer as there is in the class,” Shaw said. “Standing at a lengthy 6-5, he’s able to get the shot off over defenders. What really stands out is his ability to create space. His balance is great and can’t talk enough about the footwork. He still needs to continue working on the strength and distinguishing between a shot you can get and a good shot. Johnson has a smooth jump shot, with a repeatable form and release, no matter the level. He averaged 24.0 points on 40.7% 3P in Phoenix.”

Johnson currently has an On3 NIL Valuation of $537,000. The On3 NIL Valuation is the industry’s leading index that sets high school and college athletes’ projected annual value (PAV). The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
Texas already with one 2024 commit
Texas already has one commit in the 2024 cycle — Lexington (S.C.) four-star shooting guard Cam Scott. Scott ranks No. 28 overall in the class and pledged to the Longhorns earlier this month.
“I chose Texas because I felt it was the right place for me to grow the right way,” Scott told On3. “Allowing me to come in and make mistakes that I will learn from in a comfortable organization that I have full trust in.”
