Aeryn Hampton: "I'm 100% committed to Texas"
One of the recruiting battles that has been ongoing leading up to December 20 has been between Texas and Alabama for 4-star athlete Aeryn Hampton.
A day after Alabama offensive coordinator Tommy Rees was at Daingerfield High, Texas safeties coach and area recruiter Blake Gideon was in East Texas to meet with Hampton.
According to the No. 225 ranked prospect in the On3 Industry Ranking, the visit went extremely well.
“Coach Gideon and I had a great conversation,” Hampton told On3 Wednesday afternoon. “We talked for about an hour and a half. He was basically telling me that I’m going to have to put in the work to get my spot. He told me he likes how I have matured.”
After the conversation with Coach Gideon, the 5-10.5, 180-pounder had a message for Texas fans.
“I’m committed man. I’m 100% committed to Texas.”
The Longhorns are signing Hampton as an athlete with a look at somewhere in the defensive backfield most likely. He could also factor into the return game.
Hampton said he plans to sign with Longhorns Wednesday.
Alabama head coach Nick Saban made an in-home/school visit with Hampton last week at Daingerfield High. Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian will make his in-home in January since Hampton is not a December graduate.
