Andrew Mukuba commits to the Texas Longhorns
Clemson transfer defensive back Andrew Mukuba is staying home, this time.
The 6-foot, 185-pound versatile defensive back that can play nickel or safety committed to Texas Monday, as expected. The former Austin (Texas) LBJ High standout made a weekend visit to Texas to watch Longhorns bowl practice.
Mukuba returns home to Texas after a successful three seasons at Clemson. He totaled 149 tackles, 20 pass breakups, 4.5 tackles for loss, two fumble recoveries, an interception and a sack in 35 games (31 starts).
Mukuba burst onto the scene as a true freshman in 2021 taking home ACC Rookie of the Year honors. He posted 54 tackles and nine pass break ups in 13 games, including 11 starts.
He played both safety and nickel during his time at Clemson.
Mukuba entered the NCAA Transfer Portal December 5
When Mukuba entered the transfer portal December 5, the first school mentioned as a legit possibility was Texas. Along with being from the Austin area, his former high school coach Jahmal Fenner is now on staff at Texas as Director of High School Relations.
Oklahoma, Ole Miss and Oregon also attempted to make runs at the former CenTex 4-star recruit.
Mukuba becomes the second transfer for Texas in the 2024 cycle. He joins wide receiver Matthew Golden, who committed to Texas Saturday.
