Steve Sarkisian reveals Anthony Cook's broken arm will keep his status "week-to-week"
Texas defensive back Anthony Cook suffered a broken arm in the team’s 41-34 loss to Oklahoma State over the weekend and on Monday coach Steve Sarkisian confirmed that level of detail on the injury.
Cook’s broken arm will keep his status “week-to-week,” the second-year head coach said, according to On3’s Joe Cook.
The senior defensive back had been one of the defense’s most productive players through the first half of the season. So far in 2022 he has logged 44 tackles, 2.5 tackles for a loss, 0.5 sacks, two pass breakups and a forced fumble.
He’s been a key member of a Texas secondary that has already had some issues stopping the pass. The Longhorns rank just 94th nationally in passing defense after Week 8’s games, allowing 249.3 yards per contest.
“Yeah, it definitely hurt losing Cook,” Sarkisian said after the loss. “Anytime you lose a senior in the back end who has played a lot of football — that has an effect on us. He was playing hard. He’s playing well. He ended up breaking his arm.”

Anthony Cook’s broken arm further hampers secondary
After allowing opponents to average just 212.0 yards per game through the air in the first six contests of the season, Texas has taken a significant step back the last two weeks.
Iowa State threw for 329 yards (more than 60 yards better than its season average), while Oklahoma State connected for 393 yards (80 yards better than its season average).
Cook has provided a stable presence in the secondary for years now, logging starts all the way back to 2018. In his career he has recorded 150 tackles, 9.0 tackles for a loss, 2.5 sacks, eight pass breakups, three forced fumbles and a fumble recovery.
In the event he can’t play, the Longhorns will have to hope others emerge.
Texas has a bye week this weekend before returning to action at Kansas State on Nov. 5.
