Three hours before Texas takes the field in the college football playoff, the Longhorns received more good news on the recruiting trail.

Junior linebacker Anthony Williams announce his commitment to Texas over Auburn, Baylor, Notre Dame and Oregon Monday afternoon.

The near 6-foot-4, 195-pounder knew Texas was where he wanted to be during the 57-7 win over Texas Tech in late November.

“When I went to the game against Texas Tech, that’s when I knew Texas was the place for me to be,” Williams told On3. “Watching them play and dominate, it may me feel like this is somewhere I need to be the next four years of my career.”

Williams announced via twitter December 27 he planned to announce his decision January 1. He actually gave the Texas staff his verbal pledge four days prior to the 27th.

“I told the coaches December 23. I called Coach (Jeff) Choate first. He spread the word to Coach PK and Coach Sark. Then Coach Sark hit me up and said let’s do it, and we want you to be part of the Texas program.”

Willams has been on campus in Austin multiple times throughout the process. Each time, he felt more comfortable with every aspect of the university and program.

“It’s a great program. I see a program that can win the National Championship this year. In the future, I feel like it will be the same way. The program is going to keep getting better and winning. We will keep. getting more big time recruits, and winning big games.”

Texas offered Williams in late July of 2023.

The Houston area prospect has 19 offers to date, including 16 Power 5 offers. The offer list includes Nebraska, Ole Miss, SMU, Texas Tech, Arkansas, Houston and TCU. His last four offers have come from Auburn, Arizona, Ole Miss and Tulsa.
