Arch Manning isn’t going anywhere. On Monday, the Texas quarterback squashed any rumors that he plans on entering the transfer portal after this season ends.

“I really have no plans on entering the portal or anything,” Manning said.

Manning’s statement is a massive weight off Texas fans’ shoulders. There have been rumors about Manning’s plans this offseason, particularly as QB1 Quinn Ewers has looked more and more likely to return for another season.

Entering the season, Ewers was projected to be a first-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. However, after inconsistent play and injury issues, Ewers’ draft stock has slipped. Many fans believed that if Ewers opted to return next season, Manning would move on from the program. Now, that appears to not be the case.

While Manning has still served as the Longhorns’ backup QB this season, he’s had far more opportunities to shine than he did in his true freshman campaign. Manning has completed 67.8% of his pass attempts for 939 yards and nine touchdowns this season while only throwing two interceptions.

Manning’s arm isn’t his only weapons. He’s also amassed 100 yards and four touchdowns in the ground games this season.

Manning received his biggest opportunity yet earlier this season when Ewers suffered an abdominal injury in Texas’ win over UTSA on Sept. 14. Manning took over for Ewers, throwing a touchdown on his first play in the game.

In Ewers’ absence, Arch Manning started the next two games for Texas, leading the team to wins over Louisiana-Monroe and Mississippi State. While Ewers regained his starting spot after recovering from injury, Manning has continued to receive intermittent reps.

Although Manning is seemingly content with the situation, many fans have called for Manning to become the team’s full-time starter. Earlier this month, Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian revealed how he deals with these demands.

“I try to not consume myself with what y’all think,” Sarkisian said via The Rich Eisen Show. “We focus at the task at hand and that’s what’s in the best interest of the team to win ball games.

“If I let the emotional roller coaster of what other people think, I’d be an emotional nightmare. Because in one aspect, I can read one article that says Quinn is the greatest thing since whomever. Next is, ‘Why don’t you play Arch?’”

While the transfer portal winter window officially closed on Dec. 28, players who are competing in postseason games will have five days after their season ends to enter the portal. Despite Manning’s comments, fans will undoubtedly be watching the former five-star QB’s every move.
