Bijan Robinson recalls funny story with Kelvin Banks in the weight room
The Texas Longhorns brought in a talented offensive lineman in 2022 recruit Kelvin Banks. Since arriving in Austin, Banks has already made an impact on the Longhorns program. When speaking to the media after fall camp got underway, star Texas running back Bijan Robinson recalled a funny story involving Banks in the weight room, which perfectly illustrated the mindset Banks is entering his collegiate career with.
“Yeah it was like all fun. It was in the weight room and he was getting his lift in,” Robinson said of Banks. “I was like, ‘Hey Kelvin, you gonna put in work?’ And he just kind of looked at me. He was like, ‘What are you talking about? Like I’m over here grinding.” And I was like oh shoot, like this dude, he brings that presence to him. He brings that dominance.
“Y’all saw it yesterday when he got in the pads, that dude is big. He’s big, he’s physical and he wants to get better. He doesn’t want to come in here and just learn from other guys, he wants to be the best for himself. So I think just having him here and him learning everything at a rapid speed, I think it’s just fun to watch.”
The addition of Banks is a big one for Texas, and he could help Robinson reach new heights in 2022. Banks comes in as a five-star recruit, a national top 20 player, and the top-rated offensive tackle in the 2022 recruiting class, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

The addition of Banks could result in even more improvement from Robinson
Last season, Robinson erupted in a big way as the key cog in the Texas offense after rushing for 703 yards as a freshman in 2020. In 2021, he saw 195 carries, rushing for 1,127 yards and 11 touchdowns, averaging 5.8 yards per carry. Robinson also hauled in 26 receptions for 295 yards and four additional scores.
Entering the 2022 season, Robinson is viewed as one of the top offensive players in all of college football. With a potential blue-chip offensive lineman blocking the way in front of him in Banks, Robinson could be in line for an even bigger year in his junior campaign. And if that comes to be true, defenses across the nation are going to be scrambling to find ways to stop this offense.
