Bijan Robinson talks about what NFL running backs he models his game after
Texas running back Bijan Robinson is one of the most explosive players in college football. Few running backs can match his freakish combination of size, speed, and power in the open field. He didn’t get the nickname “Little Ricky” by accident. The nickname references former Texas Longhorn legend Ricky Williams.
Robinson was one of the most decorated running backs ever to commit with the Longhorns, when he signed with Texas in the 2020 recruiting class. He was rated as the top running-back prospect in America and the 15th best overall prospect in the country, according to 247sports.com. He eviscerated defenses for over 7,000 total rushing yards in high school at Salpointe Catholic (Tuscon, Arizona). The 6-foot, 215-pounder became the state of Arizona’s all-time rushing yardage leader (7,036) and all-time touchdown leader (114).
There was a lot of hype surrounding him before he even touched a football his freshman year at Texas, but he didn’t disappoint.
In just five games last season, Robinson erupted for 703 rushing yards and four touchdowns. The Arizona native averaged over eight yards per carry. As a receiver, Robinson hauled in 15 catches for 196 yards and two touchdowns.
His best performance came in the Alamo Bowl against the Colorado Buffaloes. He gashed them for 183 rushing yards and one touchdown on just 10 rushing attempts, averaging 13.1 yards per carry.
The hype surrounding Robinson has only continued to build in the off-season, as his head coach Steve Sarkisian recently compared him to Reggie Bush, one of the top college running backs of all time.

The Longhorns are expecting big things yet again this fall from their superstar running back. He recently took the time to speak with reporters about what players in the NFL he likes to model his game after. Below is the quote from the interview.
Texas RB Bijan Robinson
On what players he models his game after in the NFL:
“Yeah, so I watch a lot of highlights to this day,” he said. “I watch them on XOS. But one dude that I like to watch a lot is Dalvin Cook. Just his contact balance and how he can explode out of the backfield. I admire my game in that way. Alvin Kamara–because he’s a do-it-all back. I feel that I can use my skill set to do a lot of different things in this offense, whether it’s lining up at receiver, routes out of the backfield. Just like they do.
“I just love how their games–I can complement my game to their game, and take a lot of skill sets from them in the NFL. But those are two dudes that I love to watch and take away things from their game.”
Texas kicks off the season against the Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns. The game will be televised on Sept. 4 at 4:30 p.m. on FOX.
