Ainsworth (Neb.) four-star tight end Carter Nelson received an offer from Texas Monday. He announced the news on Twitter.

Nelson is the No. 181 overall prospect and No. 7 tight end in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 1 player in Nebraska.

On3 rates Nelson higher than other recruiting services, according to the Industry Comparison. Per the 2024 On300, Nelson is the No. 109 overall prospect, No. 5 tight end and No. 1 player in Nebraska.

The 6-foot-4, 215-pound Nelson holds 22 Power Five offers and the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine currently has Nebraska as the favorite to land a commitment from Nelson at 40.7%.

Nelson is currently in the middle of junior basketball season and focused entirely on that so he didn’t take any visits in January. He told On3 that he likely won’t take any visits until the basketball season is over.

HuskerOnline’s Steven Sipple recently reported that while Nelson isn’t taking visits, flocks of college coaches have come to see him including Nebraska’s Matt Rhule, Notre Dame’s Marcus Freeman as well as coaches from Michigan, Penn State and Colorado.

Nick Saban also offered Nelson recently over a phone call.

“No matter what my decision ends up being whenever I get there I will always be a Nebraska fan,” Nelson told HuskerOnline’s Bryan Munson. “I remember a Christmas that I stayed with my grandparents when I was a little kid and I had the corn cob hat on my head and Nebraska overalls on. Nebraska will always be home for me. But so far, I don’t think that is what I want to base my decision on.”

Nelson currently has an On3 NIL Valuation of $45K. The On3 NIL Valuation is the industry’s leading index that sets high school and college athletes’ projected annual value (PAV). The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
