Chris Beard goes on weird tangent while addressing stars frustration vs Texas Tech
Chris Beard has an idea of what went wrong Saturday against Texas Tech. In his postgame press conference, the Longhorns coach said his team’s frustration boiled over before making a humorous comparison.
“Part of being a competitor is being frustrated,” Beard said. “You just don’t let it bleed into how you approach the game. You’re playing against a really good team, so it’s not gonna be all rainbows and ice cream sandwiches — I had an ice cream sandwich the other day, a Klondike Bar, so it’s still on my mind. But every game there is frustrations. …I think there was some stretches in the game where we let the last play affect the next play. We talked about that.”
The Longhorns dropped their second game this season against Texas Tech, whom Chris Beard coached the previous five seasons. Trailing by 10 with 3:38 to go, Texas came back to make it a one-point contest by the 1:37 mark. Unfortunately, they would be outscored 5-0 the rest of the way and fall to 19-8 on the season.
Longhorns guard Andrew Jones did his best to keep his team in it, finishing with a game-high 20 points. However, he was the only Texas player to score in double digits, with Courtney Ramey’s nine points the next highest. Bryson Williams led the Red Raiders with 17 points.

Texas has a solid NCAA Tournament resume, with a 5-6 record against quadrant 1 teams. The Longhorns were listed as a four seed in On3’s most recent bracketology projections released on Feb. 15. However, they will need to finish strong if they hope to stay in that range. They close the season with a pair of opportunities against top 10 teams Baylor and Kansas before the Big 12 Tournament is set to begin. Texas is looking to defend its title from a year ago, when it took out Oklahoma State for the conference crown.
The Longhorns have another regular season contest to focus on before then, however. They are net set to face TCU at 6 p.m. CT Wednesday in Fort Worth.
