Duncanville (Tex.) Five-Star Plus+ EDGE Colin Simmons is arguably Texas’ top recruiting target in the 2024 class.

The elite pass-rusher is ranked as the No. 3 overall prospect this cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

And this weekend, he is taking his final official visit of the summer with the Longhorns. Texas is going all-out to land Simmons, even decorating his Austin hotel room with Texas posters, personalized letters from the coaching staff and his favorite snacks, including Gatorade, Hot Cheetos and cake. Simmons’ room even features a view of the Colorado river.

The Longhorns have long been one of the top schools in his list and are battling the likes of LSU, Texas A&M, Georgia, Miami, Oregon, Alabama and more.

He visited each of those schools this spring and summer, with this trip to Austin being his first since March. Head coach Steve Sarkisian has made a huge impression on him and continue to be one of the biggest reasons for Simmons’ interest in the Longhorns.

“[Coach Sark is] definitely top two head coaches that I’ve ever met, not only high school but just that I’ve ever met,” he told On3’s Chad Simmons last month. “I love everything about him, his personality, everything. He’s outgoing, he’s outstanding.

… I’m from Texas, it’s the home state team. Austin is an upcoming city and there’s a lot of potential I see out there. I feel like Austin, Texas is going to be — and not just UT itself — up in the next couple of years. Their pitch is honestly just that they need me and want me real bad, especially at my position.”

LSU currently holds a slight lead in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM), but the Longhorns are considered to be among his top two by recruiting insiders, with his commitment likely not expected until December.

Colin Simmons Scouting Summary

On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power writes this about Simmons:

“Long-limbed EDGE prospect who stars for one of the top high school programs in Texas. Measured at around 6-foot-2.5, 225 pounds with a 34-inch arm prior to his junior season. Grew around an inch as a sophomore. Primarily lines up at defensive end for Duncanville. Uses first-step quickness, play speed and dip to create issues for opposing offensive tackles. Shows good curvilinear movement with his ability to turn corners as a pass rusher. Length aids in disengaging from offensive linemen, finishing plays and disrupting passing lanes. Looks to play with a good effort level. Plays against top competition and made an impact on a defensive front that featured older, Power 5 prospects.”
