David Pollack praises Quinn Ewers for start vs. Vanderbilt
A week ago Saturday, Quinn Ewers was benched in favor of Arch Manning. Head coach Steve Sarkisian wanted to calm down his third-year starter before reinserting him in the second half. At the time, the move worked but questions about Ewers were certainly there heading into the Vanderbilt matchup.
Well, any doubters have likely been silenced as Ewers is off to a great start. David Pollack praised him with Texas up 14-7, noticing how efficient the Longhorns have been on offense. Nothing new for a unit run by Sarkisian but notable after how disjointed they looked at times against Georgia.
“Quinn Ewers bouncing back really well today. 15 straight completions and Longhorn O looking has been really efficient,” Pollack said via X. “If you can get ahead of Vandy and make them a passing team they aren’t near as dangerous.”
Not too long after Pollack’s tweet, the game went to halftime and the stats for Ewers are nice. He has completed 19 of 21 throws, with one of the incompletions being an interception. A throw was deflected high into the air on the line of scrimmage and a Vanderbilt player was on the receiving end.

Since then, Ewers has been on point. His 19 completions have gone for 211 yards and three touchdowns, tearing Vanderbilt up through the air. Just the type of response you would want after a bad performance seven days ago.
One thing is for sure — Texas will not be putting Manning into the game, at least for performance-based reasons. Everything Sarkisian has called thus far has been golden, with some confidence coming from No. 3.
Of course, there is still another half to play against a tough Vanderbilt team. Playing a complete game has to be at the top of Ewers’ wish list at this point.
