Jaylon Guilbeau will be out 'a couple more weeks,' Steve Sarkisian says
When Steve Sarkisian constructed Texas‘ 2022 class, there were some players who were going to be able to make an immediate impact. One was defensive back Jaylon Guilbeau, who has been playing nickel for the Longhorns this season. Playing in eight games thus far, the injury bug has now bit the true freshman.
Guilbeau missed Saturday’s game against Kansas State, his first of the season. Sarkisian provided the latest during his Monday press conference, saying Guilbeau is going to miss “a couple more weeks.” He said the progress is there but more time is needed.

“Guilbeau will probably be out a couple more weeks,” Sarkisian said. “He’s getting better, that’s for sure. Sooner rather than later. You know, as a true freshman, he was an impactful player for us. So, hopefully, sooner rather than later.”
TCU is next up on the schedule, with Kansas on the road the following week. If Guilbeau sticks to the “couple of weeks” timeline Sarkisian said, he would be good to return for the season finale against the Baylor Bears. Texas will be heading to a bowl game as well this season — something that can be crucial for a true freshman.
In eight games, Guilbeau has recorded 19 tackles and 0.5 tackles for a loss. Add in two pass deflections and he has been a key member of the secondary under defensive backs coach Terry Joseph. Even with the injury affecting Guilbeau, Sarkisian has to feel good about his future moving forward.

More on Jaylon Guilbeau
Guilbeau was ranked a four-star prospect by the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting services. He was the No. 151 overall prospect in the 2022 class and No. 24 in the state of Texas.
In a different world, Guilbeau is on the visitors’ sideline on Saturday when Texas plays host to TCU. A long-time commit dating back to the Tom Herman era, the defensive back decided to decommit this summer before choosing the Horned Frogs in September. That commitment lasted just under a month, switching back over to the Longhorns.
While he might not be suiting up, it’s a bit of world colliding for Guilbeau dating back to his recruitment. His team will be nearly touchdown favorites against TCU, despite a likely top-five ranking in the College Football Playoff rankings.
