D'Shawn Jamison makes announcement on his status for 2022 season
Texas Longhorns defensive back D’Shawn Jamison will return for the 2022 season, he posted via Twitter on Friday. It will mark his fifth year with the team after he joined in 2018.
With his announcement, Jamison also posted a highlight reel from the 2021 season. Jamison is electing to use his eligibility relief from the NCAA instead of entering the NFL Draft.
Jamison recorded a career-high 49 tackles with the Longhorns this season in addition to one interception. The Houston native began this year as a member of the preseason All-Big 12 team and has served as Texas’ primary kick and punt returner for the past two seasons.
It was a disappointing year for the Longhorns, who missed a bowl game in coach Steve Sarkisian’s inaugural season. That ended a streak of four consecutive bowl appearances.
Although Texas started the year ranked in the top 25 and went 4-1 through its first five games, things quickly fell apart. From that point, Texas went on a six-game losing streak that included a loss to Kansas, the Jayhawks’ only league win.
The Longhorns managed to salvage Senior Day, beating Kansas State by score of 22-17 in the final game of the season. Perhaps that can give Sarkisian and company some momentum heading into next year.
Jamison was the No. 133 overall recruit in country in 2018 and No. 11 in the state of Texas according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average. He earned his first career start as a freshman against Oklahoma State before starting in nine games as a sophomore.

Jamison began his career as a wide receiver when Texas needed pass-catching depth before moving to his high school position of defensive back ahead of the 2019 season.
In his career, he has 115 total tackles, 4.0 tackles for loss, four interceptions, 10 passes defended, two fumble recoveries, and one forced fumble.
He has two kick return touchdowns and one punt return touchdown in his career, and averaged 23 yards on his 18 kick returns this season.
Although the program didn’t reach its goals this year, there is still hope that Sarkisian can turn the team around in the 2022 season. Other Texas players with the ability to return include DeMarvion Overshown, and Keondre Coburn. Both went through senior day festivities.
