Rain may have delayed Saturday’s game between Miami and Texas but the Longhorns were seemingly not affected. Dylan Campbell continues to be the man for head coach David Pierce’s team and once again showed why. Texas is already off to a quick start, with two runs being put on in the top of the first inning.

Campbell was already ahead in the count 1-0 before getting an offspeed pitch from the Miami starter. He took full advantage, demolishing the ball for a two-run home run. It went over the left field scoreboard at Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field.

To make matters even better, Campbell extended the impressive hitting streak he has going. Campbell has recorded a hit in 37 consecutive games, already a program record. Few will be as good as this home run, giving Texas the lead in an important 1-0 NCAA Tournament game.

You can watch the full moment here.

In what has been a bit of an up-and-down season for Texas, Campbell has consistently been there when stepping into the box. Those in Austin will be thankful he decided to bring the power with him to Coral Gables just a day after making an incredible defensive play in right field.

There might be an early lead but borrowing the ‘No gas, all brakes’ mantra from football head coach Steve Sarkisian is critical. Miami is more than capable of putting together some kind of comeback and make things interesting in what should be a fun night in Coral Gables.

Jack O’Dowd joins the Texas home run party

Apparently, Campbell was feeling a bit lonely and needed someone else to join him in the home run club. Jack O’Dowd made sure to pick his teammate up, hitting another lengthy blast out of the stadium. Being just a solo home run, Texas has now extended its lead to 3-0.

An impressive start on the offensive end in a crucial game for the Longhorns.

While Miami may be hosting the regional, Texas is looking to be a serious contender to advance out of Coral Gables. Getting a win against the Hurricanes would put the Longhorns at 2-0 and in the driver’s seat. Not only would they get to sleep in tomorrow but just one more win would be required in order to make another Super Regional.

Just under eight innings remain in what’s been a fun game early on.
