Dylan Campbell reacts to walk-off hit, Texas victory over ECU in Game 2
Dylan Campbell stepped up to the plate and delivered for Texas, walking off Game 2 with a victory over East Carolina in the Super Regional while facing elimination.
With the bases loaded and two outs, Campbell fell behind in the count before sending a deep shot to right field that fell right in front of the wall for a hit — sealing the game on a 9-8 victory and forcing a coveted Game 3.
“You’ve got to want to be in that situation, and I wanted it,” Campbell said about his ninth inning at bat. “I was ready for it. After each pitch, I just kind of slowed my heart rate down and just happened to come through after that.”
The walk-off shot wasn’t the only time he played hero at the plate Saturday. Previously, he gave the Longhorns an 8-7 lead in the eighth inning off the heels of a solo home run before the Pirates went on to tie the game in the ninth.
The tying run by ECU set college baseball fans up for an exciting, entertaining finish. Campbell stepped up to the plate and kept his team’s season alive.

For some fans, they had already given up on the Longhorns halfway through the game. Facing elimination, ECU went on a massive scoring outburst, seeing five runs come home before Texas could get back to the plate.
The Pirates scored two runs off of a double with the bases loaded, and finished their scoring with a three-run home run on the very next at-bat. In the seventh inning, Texas gave up another run on a wild pitch — putting them down 7-2 in the middle of the inning before mounting the improbable comeback.
Campbell finished with three hits on five at bats on the day, knocking in two RBIs (the solo shot and the game-winner). Douglas Hodo III and Eric Kennedy also went 3-5 at the plate today — three bats that will need to stay hot heading into Sunday.
The win pushes the Super Regional series into a winner-take-all Game 3 after ECU won the first matchup of the series handily, 13-7. The winner of Sunday’s game will advance to Omaha and play in the College World Series and await the winner of No. 1 Tennessee and Notre Dame‘s Super Regional.
First pitch is slated for 4 p.m. ET with ESPN2 carrying the national broadcast.
