Dylan Disu shares feelings on quick turnaround after Houston loss
The Texas Longhorns struggled to find any rhythm against the Houston Cougars, falling on the road 82-61. After the game, in the postgame press conference, head coach Rodney Terry, forward Dylan Disu, and guard Max Abmas stepped in and attempted to answer questions about the Longhorns’ struggles against the Cougars.
Texas was coming off of a week-long layoff when they entered Saturday’s contest against Houston. But that also held true for the Cougars. Now, the Longhorns are faced with a quick turnaround as they have to prepare to take on Kansas State on Monday night. So, how will that impact the Texas players in their preparation for the Wildcats? According to Disu, it should carry little weight.
“I mean, for us, we’re ready to put this one behind us, for sure. We’ll come in; we’ll watch our clips tomorrow. Look at what we did good; look at what we did bad, and try to apply that to the next game. So, no. I have no opinion on whether or not it’s good to play earlier or later. But we’re excited for our next challenge of Kansas State, and we’re going to come out ready to play,” said Disu.
Texas must quickly bounce back from their 21-point loss to Houston at home when they host Kansas State. The Wildcats enter the contest a game behind Texas in the overall loss column, 15-10 to the Longhorns’ 16-9, but they share the same conference record: 5-7. A win on Monday against Kansas State would go a long way toward helping Texas keep its postseason hopes alive.

Terry downplays week-long layoff between games impact on Texas
The Longhorns were coming from a beat-down victory over West Virginia at home 94-58. However, that victory happened a week ago. And that led some to speculate, in the postgame press conference, whether or not the week-long layoff impacted Texas on the road against Houston.
“Yeah, no, I’m not gonna say the week-long layoff had an effect. I mean, we were playing pretty good when we took off from our last ball game the other night,” said Terry. “Last Saturday was a good ball game for us. Several of our later games have been really good for us as well. But you still gotta come back in and lace them up and go. They were off, too; they didn’t play during the week as well. We knew that coming here, they were going to be excited about competing at a high level. We were going to have to come in and match that.”
If there was any significant effect from the week-long layoff, it was not noticeable in the opening ten minutes of the game. Texas kept the game close to the start, but a two-point jumper by Jamal Snead helped propel Houston on an 11-0 run when the Longhorns were trailing 22-20. From that point on, it was all downhill for Terry and the Longhorns as the lead ballooned to 13 at the half, with Texas trailing 40-27.
