ESPN College GameDay crew weigh in on feisty quarterback comments from Steve Sarkisian
In wake of a dilemma at quarterback following Quinn Ewers’ injury, Texas coach Steve Sarkisian had some poignant comments about why he won’t say what direction he’ll go. That led to some reactions from ESPN College GameDay analysts David Pollack and Desmond Howard — who noted the increasing pressure in Austin.
The Longhorns are coming off a close loss to Alabama in Week 2 at DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium, and they put some respect on their name in the process. However, the big question is whether Hudson Card will continue filling in for Ewers as he did against Alabama or if Charles Wright will get a shot.
Sarkisian isn’t showing his hand, and Pollack didn’t appear to be a fan of his comments about it.

“I think Sark’s a little salty,” Pollack told Jen Lada on ESPN’s “College Football Live” Friday. “Hey, bro, it was a good week last week, man. You kept it close with Bama, you outplayed them. Some good things. Listen, Texas is a pressure cooker. It’s a tough job.
“He’s got now, a situation where he earned a lot of respect. But now, how do you respond? … Sark’s job is to steady the ship and apparently, his job ain’t got nothing to do with telling you who his quarterback is, Des, or who is healthy because he don’t care.”

Desmond Howard on Steve Sarkisian’s quarterback comments: ‘I think that there may be trouble in Austin this week’
Howard also assessed Sarkisian’s comments, and said Texas could be in for a test this week with UTSA coming to town. He argued the Roadrunners, who went 12-2 last season and took Houston to three overtimes in Week 1, could have some chips on their shoulders because many of them are from Texas and didn’t get recruited by the Longhorns.
That’s why it’s a statement game for them.
“I think that there may be trouble in Austin this week,” Howard said. “You talk about UTSA, the Roadrunners, these guys, they have some talent. You’re looking at a group that they have guys on their team who are from the state of Texas, weren’t recruited by Texas. This is kind of like their national championship. The Longhorns better be aware of the Roadrunners because they’re coming to make a statement.”
