Kirk Herbstreit sends message to Texas assistant Bo Davis after viral video
Texas assistant coach Bo Davis’ rant made its way around social media this week. ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit also weighed in on it.
In a secretly recorded video, Davis can be heard going on an expletive-laden rant after Texas’ fourth straight loss to Iowa State last week. Herbstreit took to Twitter to defend Davis, Texas’ defensive line coach, and what he said after the game.
“How is this filmed and shared?” Herbstreit tweeted. “I’m giving Bo Davis a standing ovation for his passion and messaging. Can’t imagine coming onto a bus seein dudes laughin on their phones after a no show performance … 4th STRAIGHT L & [they’re] on the bus smilling?! Bo lettin em know!”
The video was posted on Twitter on Nov. 9 and Davis’ voice could be heard in the background unloading on his team.
“Some of you motherf— need to get in the transfer portal,” Davis says, in part. “You want to go? Get in the motherf—. This s— ain’t a game to me. … I got my a– kicked, and you motherf—- want to laugh?”
The Longhorns have been on a four-game skid since beating Texas Tech 70-35 Sept. 25. It didn’t get any better after losing to Iowa State 30-7 to drop them to 4-5 overall and 2-4 in Big 12 play.
Texas will try to get back on track this week against Kansas.

On Thursday, Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian was more than supportive of Davis when asked about the video.
“I think one thing that jumped out to me when I first saw the video is you could hear the passion in Bo’s voice,” Sarkisian said. “We really believe in the staff we hired and what we came here to do. I think you could feel the passion and the want to get it done.”
Sarkisian adamantly shut down the notion that the incident is a distraction, while continuing to support Bo Davis.
“I didn’t view it as a distraction,” the Texas coach said. “It’s football. This is an emotional sport. Clearly, Bo was exuding a great deal of emotion and passion in what he was saying.”
The Texas Longhorns on Saturday suffered their fourth consecutive loss, which appeared to send Davis over the edge.
