Fellow Texas legend Colt McCoy sends message to Bijan Robinson following NFL dream coming true
From one Texas legend in Colt McCoy to another in Bijan Robinson, congratulations were sent following the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft.
The former Longhorns running back’s childhood dream came true on Thursday, as Robinson was selected with the No. 8 overall pick by the Atlanta Falcons. McCoy knows all about the journey from Texas to the NFL, and had some kind words for a player he certainly would’ve loved to handed the ball off to.
Check out the video below, shared to Twitter by the Texas Football account, where McCoy sets off a string of congratulations for Robinson.
“Hey Bijan, welcome to the NFL man. I know you’ve put in so much time and energy and hard work. There’s been so much sacrifice and dedication,” stated the legendary Texas quarterback. “Man, your time at UT was very special. We’re all excited for you. Congrats, and go get them in Atlanta. See ya.”
That has to be special for Robinson. It’s been an awesome 24 hours for the freshly-minted Atlanta Falcons star, and hearing the kind words of a fellow Texas legend has to put a smile on his face.
Bijan Robinson will continue to carry that Texas pride with him moving forward into the NFL, where he’ll likely become one of the most exciting players in the entire league.

Moreover, Bijan Robinson has been dominant in all three of his seasons with Texas, and will look to bring that same dominance to the Falcons this upcoming NFL season.

Robinson has run all the way up the record books his last three years at Texas, ending his career with the Longhorns with 3,410 rushing yards and 41 total touchdowns. His career rushing yards rank fourth all time in school history only behind Ricky Williams, Cedrick Benson, and Earl Campbell, who all played one more additional collegiate season than Robinson.
In 2022 he won the Doak Walker Award, given annually to the top running back in college football, and was a unanimous first-team All-American after rushing for a career high 1,580 yards and 18 touchdowns.
Robinson was a highly touted recruit out of high school, a five-star prospect ranked the No. 16 overall recruit and the No. 2 running back in the 2020 class according to On3’s Industry Recruiting Rankings.
As an NFL prospect he’s just as highly touted, regarded by many the top running back and one of the top players entering the 2023 NFL Draft for his rare combination of size, speed, strength, and versatility out of the backfield.
