LOOK: Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian visits Arch Manning's game
New Orleans (La.) Isidore Newman quarterback Arch Manning is expected to be on campus at Texas this weekend, but Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian decided one visit wasn’t enough.
Texas’ first-year head coach was spotted at Newman’s game Thursday night to watch Manning, the nation’s No. 1 overall recruit in the 2023 class.
The two have developed a great relationship, Manning told InsideTexas. It started during Sarkisian’s tenure as the offensive coordinator at Alabama and has only grown since then.
“(Sark) is a laid back guy, which I really like,” Manning said. “He’s not always pitching me. He just checks in and that’s one thing I like about him. When it is football, he’s a genius.”
Arch Manning taking five fall visits
The latest in a long line of Manning quarterbacks, Arch has drawn by the far the most attention in his recruitment. A large part of that is due to the fact that his uncles, Peyton and Eli, weren’t recruited in the social media and recruiting site era. But Arch is considered a top-three prospect in his class by every major recruiting site, and college football’s elite programs are throwing their cap in.

Manning has already visited Georgia and Alabama this fall, and he’s scheduled to see both Ole Miss and Clemson following his trip to Austin. That quintet looks to be the group of major contenders for his commitment. And according to On3’s expert predictions, Texas is likely the team to beat.
There is more than a year still to go until Manning could officially sign, and his recruitment is only going to heat up from here. His visits this fall will go a long way in shaping his final decision though, he told InsideTexas’ Justin Wells.
He was impressed by both Alabama and Georgia, in particular the atmospheres. But even after heartbreaking loss to Oklahoma last weekend, the reception he’ll receive in Austin might just top them both.
